Silver, chrome wheels, MD tags - that might very well be my old car (sold 2001). Did you notice whether it had cloth upholstery?

The weirdest thing about that is, they could have just bought one of these.

Nope, it was definitely a 1999 Taurus. I could recognize those quad headlights anywhere.

Naw, it just ripped past me, but I could recognize that noise anywhere. And it was silver. Found it in KC, saw it right here.

No I’m saying instead of putting an LS into a Taurus the could have just bought an Impalla SS, if the Reeeally wanted a bigger V8 in their FWD economy class family sedan. I mean the late 90's SHO had a V8 too but it was only 3.4l. I think the w body SS has a 5.3l LS4.

Probably much worse, doesn’t have the donks to increase the rotational mass.

If your heard it, you probably heard a SHO. Those Yamaha V8's sound awesome. Of course someone could have swapped in an LS4.

It was an LS2 or LS3. It sounded Corvett-y

probably a SHO with an exhaust leak. I’m not sure how you’d hook an LS up to a FWD set up. But i’m also no mechanical engineer. the Yamaha V8 sounds wicked when given a good exhaust and burblely with an exhaust leak

Impala/Gran Prix had a sideways LS motor.
The Yamaha V8, while awesome, did have some very expensive failures. Notably things to do with cam shafts that lead to many many broken pieces inside the engine. Someone may have decided to do a Chevy swap instead of looking for another Yamaha.
Or it may have just been the stock engine with straight pipes instead of mufflers.

A couple times in the 15 years since I sold it I’ve seen a silver one, but they always have leather or the wheels aren’t chrome (which I hated). That was a very reliable car. Miss it sometimes.

It wasn’t a SHO, it didn’t have any badges at all, except for the regular Taurus badges. I would know if it was a SHO.

The words “1990s Ford Taurus”, “retardedly fast” and “loud” should only make sense in a sentence when arranged like this:
1990s Ford Taurii are retardedly fast desintegrating and OMG THE EXHAUST JUST FELL OFF.

These cars can seriously sound amazing.

The LS4 is a transverse LS V8. So it’s possible, but not likely.

Sorry bro, I’m calling shenanigans on your so called ability to identify an LS2 vs a SHO motor. I’m calling further shenanigans that you can identify LS2 vs LS3.
Exhaust systems are cheap and easy to install/have installed and drastically change the sounds of engines.

Bro, Taurus SHO’s in the 90's were pretty psycho fast for their time and didn’t look it at all.

Either LS3 or LS2, but it was an LS. There were no badges on the back, and no spoiler, so....

I’m still betting it was a V8 SHO engine with an exhaust/broken off exhaust. The one pictured in your thread is an SHO. I got obsessed with them for a short time when my dad had a duratec taurus and lamented he should have gotten the SHO V8. I had a lot of fun with that duratec between rear strut changes and motor mount changes...

I’m not sure why people assume that if they’re dropping in an LS it would still be FWD.

Have you never heard of someone debadging a car or not liking the spoiler? I actually think the spoiler is terrible and if I had one I’d take it off. Maybe it got rear ended and they replaced the back end with stock Taurus parts to save money?
There’s all kinds of possibilities here.

I’m with the general crowd here and thinking it’s a debadged SHO. I’ve driven a couple of them, and holy hell they’re quick.
A friend of mine /almost/ bought one, before getting a first-gen Aurora with the Autobahn package, which was also a pretty decent car and quick for what it was.

No you didn’t.
There’s no way, no how there’s anyone in this world stupid enough to waste the time/money/resources to put an LS motor in a blob Ford Taurus when they could just buy a 2006+ Impala SS.

Aren’t you the guy who thought radar detectors are illegal?
Yeah, I don’t think you’re a very credible source my man... What you heard was a SHO with exhaust work.
Considering most American V8's sound similar, and your lack of knowledge in the automotive field, as seen through you thinking that detectors are illegal, I also doubt your ability to make out an LS2 basesbased purely on sound alone....

well what i’m saying is that the SHO is definitely a fast car
Jdrentarol seems to be convinced that the original motor couldn’t have been in the car becuase it was loud and fast. both of those things were 100% capable with the stock engine.

There is a 0% chance that car had an LS and there is a 0% chance you could tell the sound difference between and LS2 and LS3 that you think were in the car. Not to sound hateful but the swap makes no sense. You say “because sleeper” and that is what is is because it is likely a SHO debadged for that reason. To do the swap a person would have to source and LS4 and transaxle assembly and somehow get it to fit which would be waaaaaay too costly and time consuming when they could get an Impala SS as everyone suggests. The SS would still be a sleeper too.
